At Transformed for Life, we have been sensitizing communities on the importance of tree planting and wildlife and trying to help people appreciate beneficial species such as pangolins, owls, and chameleons that people unduly fear. From these sensitizations, the community now calls us when there is an injured wild animal and we have helped to rescue and release wildlife that is injured or in peril.
Pangolins are currently the #1 trafficked animal in the world and one of the focus animals that we have worked hard to protect. Although it is endangered, pangolins are still found in our area although their numbers are declining. We have been able to help rescue and release 24 trafficked pangolins and release them back into protected areas in partnership with Uganda Wildlife Authority.
We have been also working with communities from killing wildlife to appreciating and protecting it. During this process 107 poachers have given up poaching and turned in their hunting equipment and registered with Uganda Wildlife Authority. Transformed for Life has appreciated these reformed poachers with animal projects that they can conduct from their homes.
